Start off your day with lunch and Keynote speaker Paul Douglas with a conservative view of climate change, attend some great afternoon education sessions, mix and mingle with friends in the early evening, and then hear AIA speaker Bill Sheley with Hi Tech Housing discuss innovations in the prefab market.

Then enjoy the after party on the Patio.

Keynote Luncheon: 11:30 AM

Trade Show Open: 11:30 – 7 PM

Educational Sessions: 1:00PM - 5:30PM - 3 CEU's available

AIA Program: 7:00 PM

After Party: 8:00 PM

Paul Douglas, Meteorologist - Lunchtime Keynote Speaker

Douglas is a leading national voice connecting the dots between climate change and America’s increasingly extreme weather patterns. Author of “Restless Skies, The Ultimate Weather Book,” Douglas has written articles for Bloomberg and Huffington Post. Passionate about the intersection between meteorology and technology, Douglas has been the subject of numerous interviews and stories.

Education Session #1: Panel on Energy Modeling:

Title: Integrative Design in Practice: How Energy Modeling is Changing Building Design, Construction, and Operation.

Objectives:

  1. 1. Define the different stages of energy modeling.
  2. 2. Explain the scope of current energy modeling tools.
  3. 3. Demonstrate how early-stage energy modeling can influence design decisions through integrative design.
  4. 4. Discuss the trials and benefits of leveraging whole-building energy modeling for energy code compliance and/or green building certification.
  5. 5. Explain the essential functionality and expected outcomes of energy modeling.

Panel consists of Dan Overbey with Browning Day Mullins Dierdorf, Bill Brown with Indiana University, and Ryan Hoffman at Heapy Engineering

Education Session #2: Net Zero Presentation:

Title: When ‘Zero’ Means Everything

This program will provide a detailed analysis of net zero energy building including case studies, what methods have proven to work, what A/E/C team members need to be on the lookout for, and why every building owner should understand their EUI (energy use index).

Objectives

  1. 1. Understand an EUI (Energy Use Index)
  2. 2. Calculate the cost of 1 kbtu
  3. 3. Understand Net Zero Energy Building and the multiple approaches to achieving success
  4. 4. Understand Utility Company Net Metering (friend or foe)

Speakers: Jae Ebert and Tony Hans with CMTA Engineers

Education Session #3: LCA Presentation by Athena Sustainable Materials Institute:

Title: Using LCA for More Sustainable Buildings and Products

Life cycle assessment (LCA) is the latest addition to the sustainability toolkit for buildings. A well-established environmental science long used in the industrial sector, LCA looks at the upstream and downstream burdens throughout the entire building life cycle with a focus on embodied environmental impacts. Embodied impacts become more critical as operating consumption is reduced through optimization of design and building management.

LCA provides a quantitative basis for environmentally improved designs, removing the guesswork, unintentional greenwashing and burden shifting (when improvement in one life phase merely creates more burden in another phase). It’s a critical tool for product manufacturers and building designers looking to verifiable reduce their footprint.

Objectives

  1. 1. Understand life cycle assessment (LCA)
  2. 2. Apply LCA to design projects
  3. 3. Achieve the new LCA credit in LEEDv4 and Green Globes
  4. 4. Understand the environmental impacts of design choices

Speaker: Grant Finlayson, Research Associate at Athena Sustainable Materials Institute

AIA Evening Speaker: Bill Sheley, Hi Tech Housing. "Innovations in Prefab Construction"

Organized by

Uniting, Connecting, Building...

This is the motto of the Indianapolis Chapter of CSI. Currently in its 53rd year serving the Central Indiana design and construction community.
